Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our Materials Research and Technology department

Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

The Nanomaterials Unit is strategically positioned to address the development of high-performance and multifunctional nanomaterials in the fields of powder/filler engineering, heterogenous nanocatalysis and membranes. The research team drives the next generation of nanomaterials contributing in solving modern society challenges like clean energy, sustainable industry, sustainable mobility or pollution elimination. This Unit aims at advancing scientific knowledge in experimental, and multi-scale design of functional nanomaterials accelerating the deployment of Core technologies like green hydrogen synthesis, PMG-less fuel cells, lightweight high-performance nanocomposites, bio-nanocomposites, 3D/4D printed materials.

The powder/filler engineering group focuses on the research of novel, complex and when relevant bio-based nanomaterials system which encompasses advanced (but still up-scalable) synthesis processing towards their physical and chemical properties driving their use towards improved or novel functionalities.

How will you contribute?

As Group Leader powder/filler engineering, you are responsible – in accordance with your Head of Unit – for the overall management, coordination, development and performance of your group. In this framework, your main missions are:

Define and Implement the group’s strategy:

  • Define and propose, to the Head of Unit, a RDI strategy for the group, aligned with the unit and MRT strategies and with LIST’s missions as an RTO;
  • Ensure the implementation of the RDI group’s strategy and business plan;
  • Ensure that the RDI group’s contribution to the Nanomaterials unit’s performance indicators is achieved;
  • Increase the impact and visibility of the group’s and unit’s RDI domain at the European level.

Manage the group:

  • Take the lead on overall management, coordination and performance follow-up on the research group;
  • Lead a multicultural and multidisciplinary team of researchers and create a stimulating and satisfying work environment within the group, assume the operational responsibility of the group’s human resources;
  • Manage the portfolio of associated projects and activities related to the group;
  • Guarantee the professional execution of the RDI projects of the group;
  • Lead the definition of large-scale research and technology projects as Principal Investigator and manage it, in particular within EU programs and with industry;
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration with other RDI groups of the department;
  • Be hierarchically the person responsible for the group members and assume the operational responsibility of the group’s human resources;
  • Ensure the financial follow-up of the group’s performances;
  • Assist the Head of Unit in reporting tasks and other administrative activities.

Ensure the group’s dissemination, valorisation and transfer of RDI results:

  • Develop the valorisation of the group’s outcome in terms of publications, patents, licenses, prototypes production, spin-offs;
  • Develop external collaborations, partnerships and networks.

Expand scientific excellence and technological watch:

  • Besides these responsibilities and missions, as Group Leader, you shall continue to build your scientific and technological knowledge and directly contribute to projects relying on your high level of expertise.
