LIST is actively looking for a Senior Financial Controller for its Finance Unit. The successful applicant will join a team of 5 highly skilled team members and will report and work in close collaboration with them and with the Finance Head of Unit. The successful candidate will intervene in a variety of improvement projects besides the daily activities.

The successful candidate will be part of the FINANCE unit which is a strategic entity within Finance and Administration department. It aims at effectively helping drive LIST forward by partnering closely with other teams to support LIST’s growth as an evolving Research and Technology Organisation.


How will you contribute?

Main missions

As part of the Finance team and as a Senior Finance Controller, besides ensuring that recorded data is accurate, on time, and within the rules, you are responsible for financial planning, driving controllership, advising internal stakeholders on budget and provide, with your colleagues, key financial analyses, and reporting. You are asked to:

  • Ensure the timely production of reliable budgets and forecasts. Ensure they are presented in a comprehensive and accurate way.
  • Provide the necessary analysis for management control and produce reports and quarterly key figures. Use relevant data to generate insights and improve our organisation. 
  • Participate in monthly / quarterly analyses of costs and revenue.
  • Provide holistic and financial perspective to deciders. Act as trusted “business advisors” to ensure our leaders have the most up to date, relevant and reliable information.
  • Participate in the definition and implementation of financial control and reporting tools and procedures that ensure the reliability of F&A financial data.
  • Produce guidelines and develop reference financial templates. Ensure that the outcome is lean, relevant, and effective.
  • Carry out - in close collaboration with the team - financial analyses of LIST cost models.
  • Prepare and analyse cost centre reports and discuss about your conclusions with departments managers.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to gather, produce and share the most relevant information that allows to make ultimately the best possible financial decisions for LIST.
  • Represent the team in meetings with stakeholders.
  • Advise the various entities of LIST on the financial aspects of business plans, in particular for the setting up of LIST spin-offs. 
  • Advise on the setting up of partnerships and the development of new collaboration models, in particular in collaboration with the Technology Transfer Office.
  • Work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders in a proactive support approach, you make the difference by supporting them with your expertise and service orientation.
  • Work closely with the Finance Head of Unit to provide ad-hoc support when required. 

Moreover, you will take part in FINANCE’s projects and ensure that project/team milestones/goals are met. You will have the opportunity to/are expected to:

  • Participate in the definition of projects lead by FINANCE unit, in close collaboration with the parties involved in it.
  • Manage the projects and ensure their proper implementation and communication around it.

You hold a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Controlling, Audit or a relevant field.

You also have: 

  • Successful professional experience (about 10 years) in a similar function.
  • Sound experience as a project manager.
  • Besides synthetic and analytic thinking, you have good writing skills.
  • High-level financial reporting and analysis skills
  • Ability to define Business plans for new businesses (spin-offs, start-ups).
  • Understanding of Legal texts and regulations relevant for LIST (rules of funding agencies, European regulations on state aid, provisions relating to public procurement).
  • Experience in project management and are motivated to work on different projects in parallel.
  • Sound experience in using SAP is a plus.

  • You are rigorous and methodical; you show agility and are dynamic.
  • You have a lean and pragmatic state of mind.
  • You have preferably experience in a research organisation and/or in an organisation managing public/private funding is an asset.
  • You are a good communicator; you can adapt to a variety of interlocutors in a fast paced and demanding environment.
  • You can adapt to conflicting deadlines and priorities established by institute’s demands.
  • You are not afraid by change and are ready to become a change ambassador in an environment which is constantly evolving and facing new challenges.

On top of this you’re fluent in English and French (spoken and written). Luxembourgish and/or German are considered as assets.
