The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.

The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).

Responsibilities

How will you contribute?

LIST is looking for a highly motivated candidate with skills in software development.  

The successful candidate will support the implementation of prototypes using simulation and emulation tools to support the research and development activities of the IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department. 


One of the domains is wireless communication where the ongoing rollout of 5G opens up new opportunities to implement services with low latency and massive connectivity capabilities - in particular in the cooperative, connected and automated mobility domain. However, these emerging networks come with complex architectures and it is not always easy for developers to plan the deployment of their service and to evaluate its potential performance and optimal configurations. This is where simulation and emulation come in. Once the systems are properly simulated, their operations can be optimized by considering trade-offs between usually conflicting objectives like efficiency or energy consumption. This is where the so-called techniques of multi-objective optimizations come in to complement simulation and emulation.


Another domain is smart logistic with a focus on waste management optimisation.


The specific missions of the candidate will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the department's research work by implementing prototypes using simulation and emulation tools.
  • Create interfaces to inject real data into these environments.
  • Assist in the performance evaluation and optimisation of 5G applications, especially in the field of connected mobility.
  • Support in physical setup of the 6G-Lab

You are a student with a background in Computer Science.

Furthermore we consider as an advantage: 

  • Knowledge in communication networks. Experience in VANETs.
  • Knowledge in data analytics - experience with R or Python.
  • Knowledge in network traffic simulation (e.g., OMNeT++). The same applies for road traffic simulators (e.g., SUMO) and emulation solutions (e.g., OpenAirInterface).


On top of that you have a good level of English. French will be considered as an asset.
