Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our Materials Research and Technology department

 Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg and abroad.

How will you contribute?

The candidate will be integrated into our Advanced Characterization Platform (ACP) and will be hosted in the cluster “Elemental and Isotopic Analysis”.

ACP, as a transversal entity, offers a combination of recognized scientific and technological competencies as well as cutting-edge equipment in the field of materials characterization (SIMS, XPS, XRD, NMR, TEM,). We are developing analytical methodologies and applications with researchers within LIST and externally.

The SIMS technique has been part of our institute from the beginning of its activities. Today, our platform is equipped with two state-of-the-art SIMS instruments: a CAMECA NanoSIMS and a Cameca SC-Ultra for high-resolution SIMS imaging and high-resolution depth profiling respectively.

The candidate will mainly carry out SIMS analyses but will also involved in SEM analyses. She/he will actively participate to the development of new methodologies in the framework of our research projects in collaboration with internal and/or external partners. The responsibilities of the engineer will also include:

  • Contributing to sample preparation for SIMS and SEM analyses;
  • Performing service work and writing related reports, requested by our industrial partners;
  • Interpretating analytical results;
  • Management of equipment;
  • Participating to laboratory management;
  • Documenting and archiving the results and related data, including the writing of reports requested internally;
  • Supporting the preparation of project reports or publications.
