Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our Environmental Research and Innovation department

The Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department, made up of 200 life science, environmental science and information technology researchers and engineers, provides the interdisciplinary knowledge, expertise and technologies to lead solutions including the major environmental challenges facing society, such as climate change mitigation, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, and environmental pollution prevention and control.

The department relies on two cutting-edge platforms, the Biotechnologies and Environmental Analytics Platform and the Observatory for the Climate and the Environment, and the GreenTech Innovation Centre (GTIC): a one-stop-shop for the complete development of bio-based products and processes.

The selected candidate will more specifically join the Plant Molecular Farming research group which, among others, develops new concepts, products and services based on integrative biology and biotechnological approaches for the valorisation of plant biomass as feedstock of molecules for renewable industrial products and the biotech sector. The group activities are centred around phytofactory. LIST developed a bioprocess platform that allows using plant cell suspension cultures and chassis organisms cultures as one of the most efficient solutions to produce complex and high added value compounds, which are difficult to either produce chemically or extract from available biomass. The selected researcher will integrate a highly active and motivated team in order to play a key role in the future valorisation of plant-based molecules for industrial applications.

How will you contribute?

The selected researcher will be expected to perform a strong, innovative research and innovation activity in plant synthetic biology. She/he will be expected to bring her/his expertise to support the team in this topic. The main objective will be to integrate a competitive research agenda focusing on plant metabolic engineering and understanding of biological chemistry as a basis for using plant as cell factories. Expertise on modelling of metabolism and cell function, bioprocess physiology and optimisation, experience in cell lines engineering, analysis and product design are required for this position as well as an excellent academic background. In addition, a proven track record of working closely with industry and understanding industrial needs would be considered as an important asset. In this context, the selected researcher will be involved in among other activities a project aiming to decipher the biosynthesis and regulation of suberin in plants.

The main responsibilities of the selected candidate will include to:

  • formulate innovative/scientific/ technologic concepts ;
  • disseminate, valorise and transfer RDI results (patents, licenses, prototypes, publications, technical reports, participation in conferences, etc.) ;
  • actively collaborate with other researchers in order to promote interdisciplinary activities internally and externally ;
  • strengthen the unit’s scientific and technological network in plant molecular biology topic.
