The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.

The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).

 


Responsibilities

How will you contribute?


The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology is operating a Research and Technology Infrastructure (RTI) called AIDA gathering state-of-the-art tools and software platforms all along the data processing pipeline, from data cleaning to analytics, optimization, and AI, including also advanced visualization capabilities.

LIST is opening a permanent position in order to complete the team in charge of the operation management of the AIDA infrastructure.

The AIDA Lab team is supporting the LIST researchers and engineers to leverage the capabilities of this infrastructure and to get the best out of this state-of-art platform. The AIDA Lab team members have the opportunity to work with a variety of up-to-date technologies (both open source and commercial products). They also interact with colleagues working in a large diversity of application domains like energy, space, health techs, industry, fintechs, mobility, material and environmental sciences, which makes this position quite unique in terms of learning opportunities.

The successful candidate will join a team of experienced and motivated IT professionals and will contribute to further develop the AIDA Lab services for the LIST community and partners.

You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, IT Engineering or equivalent (specialty in Networks or System Administration considered as a plus)

A proven experience in system administration and/or IT infrastructure and/or IT architecture is a strong plus.

You enjoy working in a team, you have result-oriented mindset, excellent organization and capacity to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment. You should also have service-oriented mindset with good communication skills for understanding technical issues and clearly explaining solutions.

You also have ability to think out of the box to suggest innovative and creative solutions.


You have technical skills such as:

  • Administration of *nix-based servers, containerization, DBMS, application servers and related tools as well as in document & content management systems
  • Sound understanding of operating systems and network protocols.
  • An experience of data analytics platforms is an advantage (e.g. IBM Cloud Paks, especially Cloud Pak for Data and Cloud Pak for Multi-Cloud Management; Cloudera HortonWorks Data Platform; HortonWorks Data Flow)
  • Sound development skills (in Python and Shell script).


Finally, you have good command in English, both oral and written.

Other development skills (in PHP, JavaScript, others), as well as experience with maintaining Java-based application platforms, vendor/Systems Administration/System Engineer certification (e.g., Ubuntu, RedHat and also experience with cloud platforms (e.g. IBM Public Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services)

 

Knowledge of any of Luxembourg’s administrative languages (Luxembourgish, French, German).
