The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.

The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).


How will you contribute?

LIST is looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with proven skills in computer science, cybersecurity, privacy, and modelling. METAVERSE is an emerging and trendy technology tending to be massively adopted by organisations. Current use cases in development are, e.g., Digital Twin of an enterprise in the METAVERSE, services digitalized in the metaverse or employees working in the Metaverse. However, the digitalization of some services in the Metaverse comes with specific risks to be addressed, particularly in terms of cybersecurity, privacy and ethics. The main objective of the PhD project is to develop an integrated and metaverse-specific risk management framework to deal with cybersecurity, privacy and ethics risks.

The specific missions of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, leading the following activities:

  •  Literature review regarding the following:
  • Security of METAVERSE.
  • Regulations related to METAVERSE.
  •  Risk management in the domains of security, privacy and ethics.
  • Establishment of a risk management models and methods integrating three domains in the specific context of risk.
  • Establishment of risk scenario/knowledge bases and of a set of controls to address them.
  • Implementation of the risk management model and associated risk/control libraries in the GRCC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) tool.
  • Experimentation on some use cases.

You will also be in charge of disseminating and promoting the research activities that will be carried out, whether through publications or technical reports.

The candidate should accept to submit a proposal for funding under the framework of Industrial Fellowship from FNR (www.fnr.lu) under the collaboration between LIST/ITIS and a business company based in Luxembourg.

You hold a Master in Cybersecurity or Master in Computer Science with strong background in cybersecurity, you have a very good

knowledge in cybersecurity, particularly on technologies related to Metaverse (IoT, Blockchain, Cloud Computing…) and in conceptual modelling. Risk Management is on your list of priorities.

You enjoy learning new things, you’re used to communicating effectively in English, both in writing and orally, and documenting your work.

Knowledge in French is an advantage
