The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.
The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).
LIST is working with ESA (European Space Agency) to create a platform to support sharing and managing space resources knowledge. This platform includes a knowledge graph (KG) that connects a set of information coming from several sources. We are currently implementing graph analytics methods that will be used to refine the content of the KG and to better answer the queries of the users.
How will you contribute?
You will be mainly in charge of:
- Make a state of the art on the tools and methods for entity disambiguation and completion (for graphs)
- Select a set of methods based on “Machine Learning” and/or “Logical Rules” and evaluate them within our KG (with more than 200.000 nodes and relationships).
- Propose improvements to the selected methods in order to improve the quality of the KG
- Design and implement the improved methods in Python, as a set of libraries and APIs
- Document the code and write a report describing the design process, the evaluation results, and the technical/scientific contributions.

- You are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in the Computer Science field
Experience and skills
- Python, Web standards, databases (basic Neo4j/Cypher knowledge will be appreciated)
- Comfortable working in a team but also in autonomy
- Proactive and independent skill set with the ability to take initiative
- Good English proficiency
