II-2306 HUMAN DIGITAL TWIN FOR THE METAVERSE INTERNSHIP

Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

You ‘d like to contribute as an intern? Join our IT for Innovation Services department

The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.

The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).

In the context of a collaboration with University of Antwerp (Belgium), LIST is working on implementing and studying scenarios involving digital representations of humans in context, based on Digital Twin and Digital Human Modelling theories.

Responsibilities

How will you contribute?

The work will consist in the following tasks, that will be done in collaboration with researchers in LIST and Antwerp:

  • Make a state of the art on realistic virtualisation or digital representations of humans in Virtual Reality (VR) environments
  • Helped by findings from the state of the art, implement a realistic digital representation of a person (that we call Human Digital Twin -HDT), based on a 4D scan (3D in motion), and integrate it into a VR environment (using e.g., Unity)
  • Integrating realistic behaviours and feedbacks into the HDT model, including anthropometrics variables and cognitive aspects
  • Develop and test a full prototype on a scenario such as virtual learning in an industrial production line or rehabilitation (health)
  • Using the prototype, study users’ reactions and compare with the use of non-personalised virtual avatars, to evaluate the impact of using a human digital twin
  • Write a report on the prototype development, including state of the art analysis, DHT implementation, scenario description, study conducted with users and results obtained
