The Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department, made up of 200 life science, environmental science and information technology researchers and engineers, provides the interdisciplinary knowledge, expertise and technologies to lead solutions including the major environmental challenges facing society, such as climate change mitigation, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, and environmental pollution prevention and control.


 

How will you contribute?

We are looking for a scientist or engineer with knowledge and experience in the downstream processing of biological products. The R&T Associate will intervene in the framework of one or several projects of the RDI research group they are incorporated in and report to the group leader.

 

The main mission of the R&T Associate is to conduct research, development and innovation and to participate to the definition and contribution with minor guidance to one or several RDI projects. The objective is that the R&T Associate shall ultimately be the PI of small RDI projects.

 

The day-to-day tasks include:

 

RDI work:

  • Define part of an RDI project
  • Contribute to the collection and definition of clients’ needs
  • Contribute to RDI projects or work (development of new knowledge, technology components, prototype design, etc.)
  • Manage the daily research work allowing the smooth progress of the projects
  • Formulate innovative/scientific/ technologic concepts
  • Actively collaborate with other researchers in order to promote interdisciplinary activities internally and externally
  • Participate in mentoring and training of Junior R&T Associates and undergraduates/trainees
  • Co-supervise PhD students (framework of CORE junior)

 

Project management:

  • Manage RDI project work packages
  • Manage as the PI first RDI projects (e.g. CORE junior, small service offers, etc. )
  • Identify and work on the development of future R&T and funding initiatives together with more senior staff
  • Report internally and/or externally according to their contribution
  • Responsible for the realisation of deliverables in the expected time frame

 

Dissemination, valorisation and transfer:

  • Disseminate, valorise and transfer RDI results (patents, licences, prototypes, publications, technical reports, participation in conferences)
  • Produce scientific publications, including as first author
  • Write technical reports
  • Make presentations at workshops

 

Training:

  • Participate in conferences and workshops in their research field

 

Cooperation and networks:

  • Start developing scientific and technological networks

You hold a PhD in Chemistry, Life Sciences or Biochemical Engineering and have at least 4 years of experience in research.

 

Additionally, you have:

  • A solution- and results oriented approach as a team player that also has the ability to work autonomously
  • Ideally the skills to co-design, operate and performance test a bench-top prototype
  • A background in adsorption technology, particularly for continuous bioprocessing alongside knowledge of process modelling and control, which will be considered as an asset


On top of that, you have an excellent command both spoken and written in English. Knowledge of French and/or German is an advantage.
