You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our IT for Innovation Services department

The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.

The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).

How will you contribute?

You have proven skills in industrial wireless networks, time-sensitive and deterministic networking, and/or cyber physical systems, to work on a collaborative research project.

Wireless networks in industrial automation are attracting increasing attention due to their unique communication requirements and challenges. Industrial wireless networks offer a number of benefits with respect to their wired counterparts, from higher flexibility and freedom to reduced costs for infrastructure. At the same time, the industrial environment in which these wireless networks operate is extremely challenging, while also demanding ultra-high reliability and low latency communication.

You will have the opportunity to investigate innovative solutions for industrial wireless networks in the context of a collaborative project with one of our industry partners.

Your specific activities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Identify the main challenges, existing solutions, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of a specific application of industrial wireless networks in the context of the collaborative project.
  • Develop novel technological solutions able to provide a good performance with respect to the identified KPIs.
  • Implement and develop a software (simulation) and/or hardware (testbed) environment to validate the proposed solutions.
  • Disseminate the project results through project reports and deliverables, scientific publications and conferences, presentations at industry events.
