The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, shapes the transformation of business and society by developing technologies that help organisations through their digital transition in order to build a sustainable and resilient future, all while putting privacy, security and trustworthiness at the core.

We help our partners to create truly smart applications to manage their operations more efficiently, take better decisions and comply with a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

Together, we push the frontiers of innovation for the following application domains: mobility, logistics, smart cities, industry 4.0, health tech, education tech, space, and defence.

We leverage the power of data and Artificial Intelligence, and we combine it with technology and domain knowledge to build up an exceptional portfolio of smart and sustainable solutions.

 

How will you contribute?

Under the direction of the ITIS Department Director, you will lead the innovation and business activities of the Responsible Data Science and Analytics unit (roughly 40 people), which includes three groups performing RDI activities on Human Modelling, Trustworthy AI and Visualization and Interaction.

You will:

  • Define the RDSA unit strategy and the unit innovation roadmap ensuring adherence and compatibility with department strategic goals and priorities.
  • In coordination with your group leaders, break-down unit goals into objectives and goals for RDI groups.
  • Deploy and implement the unit strategy, define plans, monitor progress, and adjusts the unit strategy in response to new constraints or opportunities.
  • Monitor trends or external factors that could impact the unit strategy and/or priorities.
  • Manage the unit project portfolio, ensuring an optimal mix of competitive/collaborative projects, and a healthy cycle of new/ongoing/to-be-ended projects.
  • Plan and implement strategies for securing funding and resources availability.
  • Seek for funding opportunities and lead the definition and negotiation of collaborations with private/public partners.
  • Forecast, agree, implement, and follow-up the execution of the unit’s budget.
  • Optimize budget and allocation of resources.
  • Follow-up and monitor the unit activity through the elaboration and analysis of activity reports and dashboards.
  • Be accountable for the performance and RDI results delivered by the unit.
  • Act as a key contributor to the definition of the department strategy.

Education

  • PhD degree in relevant field and the author of several research, development and innovation works in recognised publications, or equivalent research, development and innovation skills and experience.


Experience and skills

  • You are an established leader with broad experience in the conduct of RDI groups.
  • You have solid strategy, management, and leadership skills, and the ability and experience to lead multiple teams.
  • You possess the skills and competencies to think from a systemic and strategic point of view, to develop a vision for your unit, and draw plans and roadmaps to achieve goals.
  • You have solid knowledge of the disciplines covered by the RDSA Unit and relevant experience across multiple related disciplines. You keep abreast of the last knowledge, developments, and innovations in the fields related to your unit.
  • You have skills to lead budget preparation, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • You possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of diverse profiles. You have the ability to foster a cooperative work environment. You possess talent management skills.

  • You intervene in and solve broad and complex problems/challenges/situations involving multiple work fields, disciplines, or teams requiring critical analysis and coordination. You make decisions about complex issues concerning your unit. You are aware of the impact of your decisions on the unit and/or department activities and remain accountable for them.

  • You analyse matters from a strategic perspective. You anticipate situations and their impact.

  • You interact on a regular basis with the unit’s partners and stakeholders, you take care of business/institutional relationships and conducts negotiations.
  • You act as an ambassador to external parties and build formal and informal links with other organizations or relevant networks to promote the unit’s activities.

Language skills

  • Excellent level of both written and spoken English is required. Intermediate knowledge of French, German and/or Luxembourgish is a plus.
