The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, shapes the transformation of business and society by developing technologies that help organisations through their digital transition in order to build a sustainable and resilient future, all while putting privacy, security and trustworthiness at the core.
We help our partners to create truly smart applications to manage their operations more efficiently, take better decisions and comply with a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
Together, we push the frontiers of innovation for the following application domains: mobility, logistics, smart cities, industry 4.0, health tech, education tech, space, and defence.
We leverage the power of data and Artificial Intelligence, and we combine it with technology and domain knowledge to build up an exceptional portfolio of smart and sustainable solutions.
How will you contribute?
You are motivated to propose enhanced network management and control solutions that go beyond the capabilities of the current 5G service-based architecture.
In an era where communication networks handle ever-growing data and services, their rising complexity and density require new paradigms relying on artificial intelligence (AI). These paradigms are essential to manage dense, highly distributed, and potentially cell-free multi-domain networks that encompass diverse radio access network technologies (e.g., sub-6GHz, mmWave, sub-THz), infrastructures, services, and business scenarios. In this context, Network Digital Twin (NDT) is an emerging concept to create real-time digital replicas of existing network elements, their topology, and services. It can offer a secure sandbox for closed-loop network automation and facilitate the optimal planning, management, and control of network resources. However, significant efforts are still needed to fully realise this concept and integrate it seamlessly into practical applications.
Your mission will be to explore this topic and contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of a native AI reference architecture for 6G systems that incorporates NDT as a central mechanism for end-to-end, real-time optimisation, management and control of highly dynamic and complex network scenarios.
Specifically, the work will take place in the context of a European project, and will include, but not be limited to:
- Conducting research on 6G NDT, ensuring dissemination and promotion of the undertaken activities via publications, patents, prototypes, and technical reports. This includes proposing NDT-based models for optimising network planning, management and control applications.
- Contributing to the development of demonstrators that prove the potential of the NDT concept in the context of 6G (relying on simulation and/or emulation).
- Driving LIST's technical contribution to key project tasks and representing us in collaborative discussions.
