How will you contribute?
We are seeking a talented and motivated Research and Development Engineer to join our dynamic team. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and adapting bioprocess-related methods and unit operations or software tools for testing, analysing, and process purposes. In addition, you will play a pivotal role in defining new processes, methods, protocols, systems, and solutions to meet the requirements of our R&D and transfer projects.
This position will provide R&D plus innovation support to the Downstream Bioprocessing Group, which is part of the Environmental and Industrial Biotechnologies Unit.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for a motivated bioprocess engineer with a significant background in:
- Sample preparation of biological samples.
- Analysis of samples (biochemical, molecular biological methods);
You will share the charge of the monitoring and troubleshooting of the equipment of the facility with other engineers. The work will include the maintenance and tuning of instruments and the development of new processes. Additionally, you will be involved in the general management of the laboratories.
You will have an active part in the validation of the experimental schemes and organisation (e.g. reservation/availability of the adequate material) in:
- Design, develop, and adapt operations, methods or software tools for testing, analysing, measuring and processing.
- Define new processes, methods, protocols, systems, and solutions to comply with R&D project requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of project reports and presentations.
- Contribute to the dissemination, valorisation, and transfer of RDI results (patents, prototypes, publications, technical reports, participation in conferences),
- Consider limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost during the development process.
- Understand the research topic and implications of developments/improvements.
- Teach users, including LIST staff and external users, on the use of developed instruments and tools.
- Contribute to the definition of development projects within their field of expertise.
- Play an active role in acquiring funding to support the development of technical expertise.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements and maintain a state-of-the-art understanding of their technological field.

Education
Master degree in (Bio)chemical Engineering, Process Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Applied Life Sciences, Microbiology, or related field.
Experience and skills
- Proven experience in designing and developing bioprocesses, with emphasis on downstream processing and bioprocess analytics.
- Strong understanding of research methodologies and processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages and software tools will be considered advantageous.
- Prior experience in acquiring funding for technical projects is preferred.
- Ability to stay updated with the latest advancements and maintain a keen interest in technological innovation.
Language skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Working languages is English; French and/or German are of advantage.
