You will join the Structural Composite Unit and the Design and Manufacturing of Advanced Composite (DMAC) research group of Materials Research and Technology (MRT) department. The DMAC research group combines expertise in computational performance evaluation, design and performance optimization, and innovative manufacturing process development.

How will you contribute?

Join our dynamic team with this exciting job opportunity focused on the sustainable advanced manufacturing of structural composite.

You will lead work packages and tasks of an existing projects portfolio focused on the process development and demonstration of sustainable composite applications for aeronautics and space. Project are starting at TRL 2-3 and will have to reach a TRL 5-6 within the 3 years projects duration. Projects are in closed collaboration with Airbus, Thales Alenia Space and Euro-composite.

Your background and expertise of structural composite materials and associated manufacturing processes will enable you to have a central role in the whole on the added value chain bridging with resin synthesis team one side, as well as with modelling team on other side. You will contribute to define and validate the resin properties according to the processing requirement, and induced quality and properties. According to the need, you will contribute to adapt the manufacturing process with the specific resin behaviors.

You will lead the manufacturing activities from LIST made vitrimer with the support of two composite manufacturing engineers and the characterization and testing team, to demonstrate the overall concept from lab scale, prototype scale, up to full scale.

 

This position provides a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of transformative advancements in structural composite manufacturing technology.


Your activities will include:

·       The work package and task lead of existing research projects, including the coordination of the manufacturing characterization and testing of the developed composite materials, the results analysis and synthesis, and the internal and external reporting.

·       Lead the development of sustainable vitrimer made unidirectional tape through the new tape manufacturing line and the manufacturing optimisation of vitrimer made sandwich composite.

·       Lead the manufacturing activities from lab scale to full scale though the LIST cutting-edge composite manufacturing platform

·       Contribute to the understanding of impregnation, curing, shrinkage and performance interrelationship and development of innovative manufacturing process using reactive thermoplastic (Elium©) through C-RTM like process and pultrusion

·       Contribution to the project dissemination through scientific papers and communications as well as active participation to industrial fairs

·       Problem-solving oriented mindset

·       Contribute to the new proposal preparation and writing.

·       Manage the non-permanent staff (post-doc, masters) related to your WPs.

·       Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.


·       Specialization in composite manufacturing or thermo-physics/ testing of composite materials.

·       Proven experimental experience in Liquid Composite Molding process (RTM, LRI, C-RTM…) or prepreg consolidation (autoclave/oven)

·       Proven experiment in composite manufacturing process understanding and optimization, from curing to process induced defects.


·       Fluent in English, both written and oral.

·       Excellent job autonomy in the management of technical, time management and organizational issues

·       Excellent team player

·       Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including the industrial partners


·       Proven experience in reactive thermoplastics or vitrimer resin is a strong asset

·       Experience in composite process modelling is an asset

·       Additional expertise in Automated Fibre placement, Tape manufacturing is an asset

·       Having expertise project acquisition and management of projects is an asset
