You’d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our Materials Research and Technology teams

Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” activities, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. The materials research and technology activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

This also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

How will you contribute?

The researcher will lead the development of new precursors for sustainable polymers, focusing on the utilization of renewable resources and enhancing end-of-life options. Key responsibilities will include the synthesis and crosslinking of these precursors, employing advanced chemistries. Additionally, the role involves comprehensive molecular, thermal/mechanical, and rheological characterization of both the precursors and the resultant materials. The objective is to achieve performance levels suitable for a variety of applications, ensuring the development of environmentally friendly materials. The researcher will be responsible for developing effective thermoset resins and producing materials at a kilogram scale to advance demonstrators.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Lead the synthesis and crosslinking of polymer precursors using advanced chemistries.

·       Conduct thorough molecular, thermal/mechanical, and rheological characterization of materials.

·       Develop and optimize sustainable polymer formulations for advanced manufacturing processes.

·       Produce sufficient quantities of materials (kg scale) for testing and demonstrator development.

·       Participate in regular meetings and effectively communicate findings both orally and in written form.

·       Take a leading role in the protection and dissemination of research outcomes.

·       Collaborate constructively with a diverse team of colleagues, contributing to the group's and institution's success in an applied industrial context.

·       Stay updated with advancements in sustainable polymer technologies and integrate new findings into ongoing projects.

·       Participate in writing and leading sections of research project proposals.
