Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

How will you contribute?

LIST and GOODYEAR signed the second phase of their partnership, 2024-2029, building on the outcomes of their previous collaboration and entering new technological areas as well.

GOODYEAR-LIST partnership 2.0 embraces Luxembourg's National priorities, such as Sustainability, Digital transformation and Circular economy, through the execution of six Strategic Research Programs: Data Science for Tires, Tire as a Sensor, End-of-Life Tire Valorization, Sustainable Materials for Non-Pneumatic Tires, Sustainable Materials for Next Generation of Pneumatic Tires, Structure-Process-Properties Relationships.

We are seeking to recruit a PhD student interested in developing innovative molecular analyses and imaging strategies for rubber composites.

The PhD research project will be carried out within the framework of large public-private partnership (PPP) project devoted to the development of new rubber technologies. It is tailored around the development and interpretation of spatially-resolved measurements of targeted ingredients of interest such as organosulfur compounds in a highly complex matrix.

They are considered as reactive in the rubber industry with the given mixing/curing conditions, and thus they can react with the polymer matrix and/or the filler surface. Advanced imaging technologies such as mass spectrometry imaging represent one key application for achieving the project’s objectives. The development of analytical strategies will namely be based on existing (ESI, APCI, APPI) and emerging plasma or laser assisted ionization techniques.

In this role, you will work with a multinational and multidisciplinary team of highly skilled scientists and engineers. This is a great opportunity to acquire highly valued skills in the application of multiple characterization techniques, including Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), TOF-SIMS imaging, NMR spectroscopy, and chromatography.

When you join the team, you are responsible for designing your project and perform relevant experiments, analyse and interpret the results to meet defined objectives. The Molecular and Thermal Analyses (MTA) group actively promotes active dissemination of research results.

You are expected to publish first author papers in Q1 journals and give oral presentations to international conferences. Through the project consortium you will gain access to a strong link with industrial collaborators.

25% of the time of the PhD Thesis will be spent at the industrial site during the project.

Is Your profile described below? Are you our future colleague? Apply now!
