How will you contribute?

Within REMOTE, you will be part of the team developing smart, reliable and resilient connectivity solutions in the areas of terrestrial and non-terrestrial (satellite, airbone) networks. You will concentrate on developments related to Non-Terrestrial Networks, where the main focus will be in future 6G-NTN research, for example 3D-network architectures, TN-NTN integration, TN/NTN spectrum co-existence and spectrum sharing, constellation management, Inter-Satellite-Links communication, TN/NTN interworking (e.g. mobility and load sharing), and NTN aware protocol design. 

The connectivity-related research includes, for example, emerging RAN architectures (O-RAN/Cloud-RAN), advanced AI/ML and Radio Resource Management algorithms, Software Defined Networking, and e2e QoS in 5G/beyond 5G networks.

You will be the expert in non-terrestrial networks, particularly with 6G NTN-RAN. You will have a key role in project acquisition and development of related technological assets, as well as in managing relationships with main national and international collaborations. Such technologies shall enable and support the development of new applications in the group’s and the unit’s thematic areas of research.

 

Your mission is to

·       Conduct research on 3D-network architectures, TN-NTN integration, constellation management, TN/NTN interworking (e.g. mobility and load sharing) and NTN aware protocol design. Additionally, the future research topic will include Inter-Satellite-Links, integration of IoT and EO satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for near seamless & ubiquitous connectivity. 

·       Guide and support simulation/SW/HW platform development needed for NTN related research at LIST.  

·       Implement and design of novel NTN communication links and protocols.

·       Participate and contribute to national/international research projects (National Research Fund of Luxembourg, Horizon Europe, ESA, etc.). including project submission and acquisition

·       Write and publish research papers or reports on research outcomes, including patenting

You hold a PhD. degree in Telecommunications, or computer science and engineering, preferably on integrated TN-NTN networks. You have a large experience in wireless network technologies, preferable on integrated TN-NTN networks, with good understanding of NTN network architecture, protocols, and functionalities.

You also have a proven expertise (thorough SW development, testbed set up, patents, scientific publications, etc.) in Internet of Things (IoT), Long-range low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs), satellite IoT, combined to a good Experience with IoT PoC, demonstrators, and/or testbeds

 

Some technical skills are required such as.

·       Good knowledge of computer networking concepts.

·       Good knowledge of Internet of Things protocols.

·       Good knowledge of satellite communication systems, satellite design, satellite orbit, and constellation design.

·       Experience on Satellite Network Simulator and Emulator. 

·       Advanced programming skills (C/C++/Python/MATLAB/Bash Script, etc.).

·       Web development skills (server side, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, etc.).

·       General understanding of software quality and project management tools (Git, GitHub, etc.).

·       Embedded programming experience, ideally involving low power wireless devices (LoRaWAN devices, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.).

·       Good experience in Linux (UBUNTU) and Embedded Linux (Raspbian, OpenWRT, etc.).
