LIST is looking for a senior researcher with demonstrated expertise in the engineering and applications of plasma and vapour deposition processes, and experience in the exploitation of research towards technology. The candidate should have a proven track record in defining, acquiring and managing research projects covered by competitive (national and EU funded) and industrial research fundings. The candidate should notably have a documented work experience in establishing and leading collaborative research projects with private, public and academic partners. The candidate needs to have a solid track record of publications and/or patents. Having PhD supervision rights is a plus.

 

The researcher will be hosted in the Scientific Instrumentation and Process Technology (SIPT) unit which is focusing its RDI activities on new instrumentation, processes and methodologies in the fields of thin film processing and nano-analytics. The RDI chain of the SIPT unit spans from fundamental science all the way up to industrial scale demonstrators. Particularly, the researcher will be integrated into the Plasma & Vapor Deposition Processes Engineering (PPE) group. The group develops fundamental and technological expertise in the area of vapor deposition processes for advanced coatings and surfaces. The group focuses on its recognized expertise in Plasma, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) processes for interface engineering and functional thin films synthesis.



How will you contribute?


In the framework of national and international projects of the PPE group, the selected candidate will be in charge of RDI activities in the field of the engineering and applications of plasma and vapor deposition processes. In the framework of this mission, the candidate will define, establish and lead collaborative RDI projects.


Your responsibilities :


The senior researcher will intervene in the framework of projects of the group and report to the group leader

 

RDI WORK:


  • Define, establish and lead RDI projects
  • Contribute to the collection and definition of clients’ needs
  • Contribute to RDI projects or work (development of new knowledge, technology components, prototype design, etc.)
  • Manage the daily research work allowing the smooth progress of the projects
  • Formulate innovative/scientific/ technological concepts
  • Actively collaborate with other researchers in order to promote interdisciplinary activities internally and externally
  • Participate in mentoring and training of junior researchers and undergraduates/trainees
  • Supervise PhD students


Project Management :


  • Manage RDI projects and/or RDI project work packages
  • Report internally and/or externally according to their contribution
  • Responsible for the realisation of deliverables in the expected time frame



DISSEMINATION, VALORISATION AND TRANSFER:



  • Disseminate, valorise and transfer RDI results (patents, licences, prototypes, publications, technical reports, participation in conferences)
  • Produce scientific publications, including as first author
  • Write technical reports
  • Make presentations at workshops


COOPERATION AND NETWORKS:


  • Develop scientific and technological networks

You hold a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Sciences, or a related field, combined with a pronounced taste for experiments, teamwork spirit and strong motivation. You have strong experimental skills in vapor deposition processes (CVD, PVD, Plasma Processes). You have a record of excellence in the synthesis, engineering and characterisation of thin films as evidenced through peer-reviewed journal publications and possess a sound experience in valorising scientific and technological results. In addition, you possess sound experience in grant writing and managing research programs. On top of this, you’re highly motivated and strong team worker. You are fluent in English (both written and oral). You’re the one we’re looking for!
