You will be part of the Scientific Instrumentation and Process Technology (SIPT) unit which is focusing its RDI activities on new instrumentation, processes and methodologies in the fields of nano-analytics and thin film processing. The RDI chain of the SIPT unit spans from fundamental science all the way up to industrial scale demonstrators. Particularly, the researcher will be integrated into the Advanced Instrumentation for Nano-Analytics (AINA) group. The AINA group focuses on the development of scientific instruments based on charged particle beams and laser beams and correlative workflows taking advantage of these instruments. The group’s R&D activity covers fundamental investigations, instrument development and application development. We are a multi-disciplinary team giving the group the complete spectrum of know-how that is required to convert innovative ideas and concepts into prototype instruments.

 

How will you contribute?


Come and join our team as a Senior Research & Technology Scientist in a permanent role focused on laser diagnostic techniques. In this position, you’ll have the chance to lead pioneering projects in laser-based diagnostics and nano-analytical techniques, driving forward scientific and technological advancements.


Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovate and Develop: You will design and develop state-of-the-art laser-based diagnostic techniques (both linear and non-linear) to analyze various states of matter and for particle manipulation applications.
  •  Research and Test: You’ll create, test, and validate novel concepts in nano-analytical techniques using laser technologies, contributing new insights and solutions.
  • Lead and Initiate Projects: You’ll define and lead new project activities, including preparing and submitting proposals for competitive funding, while building partnerships with industry leaders such as instrument manufacturers.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: You’ll actively collaborate with internal and external researchers to drive interdisciplinary activities and expand the impact of your work.
  • Mentor Future Scientists: You’ll guide and support post-doctoral researchers and PhD students, playing a key role in their development and project success.
  • Disseminate Research: You’ll promote and share R&D results through patents, licenses, prototypes, publications, technical reports, and conference presentations, enhancing the visibility and impact of our work.
  • Manage Laboratory Resources: You’ll participate in managing our group’s laboratories, oversee specific instruments, ensure quality and compliance standards, and train users on equipment and protocols.
  • You’ll provide regular updates to the group leader, helping to shape the strategic direction and success of the team.

You hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field in Engineering Sciences, with at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience. You bring proven expertise in light-matter interactions for diagnostic and particle manipulation applications, such as neutral gas flow diagnostics, plasma diagnostics, optical tweezers, and post-ionization mechanisms.

 

Your knowledge also includes photon-atom and photon-ion interactions, particularly in the context of ionization processes. Primarily an experimentalist, you are also comfortable with simulation tools relevant to the field. You have experience in writing successful grant applications and a strong track record in valorizing scientific and technological outcomes.
