How will you contribute?
As a Linux System Engineer, you will be at the forefront of driving innovation in our organisation's Linux infrastructure.
You will optimize and secure critical systems, collaborate on the technological roadmap, and implement cutting-edge technologies aligned with market trends.
The role involves improving the current infrastructure, automating operations, and enhancing performance through expertise in Linux distributions, automation, and containerization.
You will develop robust security and recovery strategies while integrating new solutions to meet industry standards.
You are passionate about influencing technological change and making a significant impact on the systems.
You will be mainly in charge of:
· Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems across the organization.
· Optimize server setup for performance, scalability, and reliability.
· Implement and manage security tools and protocols such as SELinux, firewalls, and SSH to protect against potential threats.
· Conduct regular system audits to ensure compliance with the latest security standards.
· Develop and maintain scripts in Bash, Python, or Perl to automate routine operational tasks
· Plan and execute upgrades of existing Linux systems to newer versions or configurations to improve efficiency and security
· Ensure system updates and upgrades are performed with minimal service disruption, implementing roll-back plans as necessary.
· Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to manage configurations efficiently
· Set up and maintain monitoring solutions to track system performance and alert for potential issues
· Regularly review performance reports to identify and resolve bottlenecks
· Serve as a primary point of contact for Linux-related issues, providing advanced-level troubleshooting and technical support
· Document incidents thoroughly to improve future handling of similar issues
· Manage and optimize virtual environments using platforms like VMware
· Oversee container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, ensuring efficient deployment and management of applications
· Ensure server configurations align with organizational goals and performance standards.
· Design and execute data backup and disaster recovery strategies.
· Regularly test recovery procedures to validate the effectiveness of data integrity and availability
· Collaborate with IT teams to implement best practices and integrations for system enhancements
· Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders
· Stay updated with new advancements in Linux technologies and introduce innovative tools and applications to improve system advancements
· Work closely with system engineers, network engineers, and other IT staff to develop and implement a cohesive technical roadmap
· Participate in cross-functional teams to design and deploy infrastructural enhancements aligned with organizational goals

Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a related field
Experience and skills
· At least 5-7 years of in-depth experience in Linux system administration, preferably in an environment with substantial Linux infrastructure
· Expert-level knowledge of various Linux distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat, Debian)
· Proficiency in shell scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or Perl
· Experience with Linux kernel, services, and debugging tools
· Proficient in managing security in Linux environments, including SELinux, firewalls (iptables, firewalld), and SSH
· Strong understanding of network protocols and server configurations (TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTPS, etc.)
· Experience with Apache, Nginx, and other web servers
· Familiarity with database management, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL
· Experience in virtualization technologies like VMware
· Proficient in container technologies such as Docker and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
· Significant experience with automation and infrastructure as code tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform.
· Knowledge in setting up and maintaining monitoring systems (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana).
· Skilled in system performance tuning and troubleshooting performance issues.
· Strong grasp of network security, intrusion detection, and data encryption techniques.
· Knowledge of auditing and compliance procedures as applicable to Linux systems.
· Experience in implementing robust backup and recovery processes
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
· Effective communication skills to interact with team members and other stakeholders
· Ability to document processes and procedures clearly and comprehensively
· Linux certifications (e.g. RHCE)
· Certifications in virtualization or cloud (AWS, Azure, VMware) could be beneficial
· Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure especially managing Linux servers or services in these environments
· Project management experience relating to Linux systems deployment and maintenance
Language skills
· Good level both written and spoken English and French
