Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.
Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu/
The AIRA Research Group, part of the Human-centered AI, Data and Software (HANDS) research unit, focuses on assessing and enabling trustworthy AI adoption through methods and tools for compliance, readiness, and performance evaluation.
How will you contribute?
As an AI Engineer, you will contribute to industrial and academic research projects, supporting the development, evaluation, and deployment of Machine Learning models, Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agents, with a strong focus on their assessment, alignment with regulatory principles, and applied use in real-world contexts.
You will work in collaborative RDI projects funded via national or European instruments or through public-private partnerships.
You’ll also contribute to the AI Sandbox initiative of LIST (ai-sandbox.list.lu).
Main Responsibilities
· Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable machine learning infrastructure.
· Automate and optimize the deployment, monitoring, and scaling of ML models in production environments.
· Implement CI/CD pipelines for ML models to ensure efficient development and deployment cycles.
· Develop and maintain model versioning, monitoring, and governance frameworks.
· Optimize cloud and on-premise resources for cost-effective and high-performance ML operations.
· Troubleshoot issues related to ML model performance, deployment, and infrastructure.
· Design, prototype, and validate LLM-based solutions for industrial and applied research use cases.
· Integrate and deploy Generative AI models, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), in production environments.
· Optimize inference performance, latency, and scalability of LLM-based applications.
· Implement efficient fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) strategies for LLMs.
· Contribute to the evaluation and benchmarking of LLMs across multiple criteria (e.g., performance, explainability, factuality robustness, human oversight, fairness).
· Select and apply methods and tools to assess LLMs against technical, ethical, and regulatory requirements (e.g., AI Act principles).
· Support project planning, execution, and reporting within collaborative RDI projects.
· Write technical documentation, research reports, and contribute to scientific dissemination (e.g., conferences, workshops, whitepapers).
· Participate in the preparation of proposals for national and EU-funded projects.
· Engage with industrial and academic partners to co-design and deliver demonstrators.
· Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of evaluation pipelines, toolkits, and reproducible workflows.
· Participate in knowledge transfer, workshops, and standardization efforts related to AI model assessment and trustworthy AI.
· Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and DevOps teams to streamline AI/ML workflows
