Temporary contract | up to 24 months | Belval

Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu/

How will you contribute?

Join us for building the next generation of semiconductor quantum chips!

You will be part of the LIST Materials Research and Technology department, where you will carry out your work in the Quantum Materials Group, led by Dr. Florian Kaiser.

Within our EU QuantERA project “SiCqurTech”, you will help us to answer a the most pressing question in quantum technologies based on integrated colour centres: how can we efficiently reduce surface charge noise of photonic nanostructures?

You will solve this issue by high-throughput surface materials characterisation based on cryo-optic wide-field microscopy of single colour centres in silicon carbide (setup exists already). In collaboration with our project partners – TU Delft, Uni&Fraunhofer Erlangen, ERH Zürich, and Uni Linköping – you will screen several promising passivation approaches (ALD, CVD, annealing, doping, …), and identify the suitable ones for stabilising the spectral properties of nanophotonically integrated colour centres.

Based on these advances, you will support experiments targeting spin-photon entanglement for quantum networks, as well as photonic interference between distant colour centres for distributed quantum computing.

With this project, you will will initiate disruptive breakthroughs towards scalable quantum technologies based on industrial semiconductors.

Optional follow-up funding until mid-2030 is available, as well as the principal possibility to develop additional projects.
