Context

You will join the Scientific Instrumentation and Process Technology (SIPT) Unit. At the SIPT Unit, we are committed to advancing the frontiers of science and technology through the development of innovative instruments and methodologies across multiple domains, including nano-analytics, plasma and vapor deposition, optical diagnostics, and data-driven materials science.

Our multidisciplinary team leverages cutting-edge expertise in charged particle optics, particle-matter interactions, optical manipulation and computational modeling to transform innovative ideas and concepts into cutting-edge instruments and methodologies. Our RDI portfolio encompasses all levels of technological maturity, ranging from fundamental concepts to experimental laboratory demonstrations, industrial-scale demonstrators, and market-ready solutions. In partnership with leading companies, we deliver tailored solutions to industry, research centers, and universities, addressing critical challenges in energy, microelectronics, life sciences, and industrial processes. 

Within the SIPT Unit, you will be part of the Advanced Instrumentation for Nano-Analytics (AINA) research group. The AINA group develops scientific instruments utilizing charged particle beams and correlative workflows based on these instruments. The focus areas include nano-imaging, nano-analysis, and in-situ process control for nano-fabrication. AINA’s multi-disciplinary team of experts in charged particle optics, mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, software engineers and application specialists transforms innovative ideas and concepts into cutting-edge instruments. In partnership with leading companies, the group delivers customized solutions to industry, research centers, and universities, addressing critical challenges in energy, microelectronics, life sciences, and space exploration.

How will you contribute?

We have an opening for a specialist in nano-analytics for semiconductors and microelectronics. Your responsibilities will include:

·        Defining the group’s strategy in the field of instrument and methodology development for semiconductors and microelectronics

·        Implementing this strategy and leading the unit’s activities in the semiconductor and microelectronics sector

·        Liaising with relevant industry partners (semiconductor and microelectronics sector, instrument manufacturers)

·        Defining, elaborating and testing novel scientific and technological concepts and designs for charged particle beam technologies relevant in the semiconductor and microelectronics sector

·        Defining and leading new projects in this field, including writing and submitting proposals for competitive funding and collaborating with industrial partners

·        Actively collaborating with other researchers to promote interdisciplinary activities internally and externally

·        Mentoring post-doc researchers and PhD students participating in these projects

·        Disseminating, valorising and transferring RDI results (patents, licenses, prototypes, publications, technical reports, participation in conferences, etc.)

·        Reporting to the Group Leader

Educational Background

·        PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Sciences, or a related field of Engineering Sciences

Experience and skills

·        Minimum 8 years of experience

·        Expertise in the field of nano-analytics for semiconductors and microelectronics

·        RDI work experience in the semiconductor and microelectronics sector

·        Strong network in the semiconductor and microelectronics sector

·        Sound experience in valorising scientific and technological results

·        Experience in securing funding for RDI projects

·        Highly motivated and strong teamworking spirit

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Language skills

·        Fluency in English (both written and oral). Knowledge of French and/or Luxembourgish and/or German is considered as an asset
