Goal
This position reports directly to both the CEO (dotted) and CFO and holds full accountability for the Legal and Compliance functions. You will lead a team of three professionals and play a key role in shaping the company’s legal and ethical framework.
Responsibilities
Strategic & Advisory
• Act as a close and trusted advisor to the CEO & CFO in corporate governance matters.
• Provide high quality advice to the executive committee within your area of responsibility and structure remedies for the relevant topics.
• Help remove obstacles and foster business objectives in a proactive manner.
• Ensure that the company maintains the highest standards of legal and ethical behaviour, by balancing the dual imperatives of company performance and corporate integrity.
Compliance Oversight
• Key compliance position.
• Oversee the compliance function and keep the team up to date with new regulations.
• Ensure effective implementation of legal & compliance related official regulations (Insurance Distribution Directive, General Data Protection Regulation…).
• Ensure an effective and sustainable working framework for the team in its own activities and in its interactions with the rest of the company.
International Legal & Regulatory
• Proactively advise on global surveillance and guidance requirements that impact on the company’s core business activities.
• Conduct legal research on international compliance matters (e.g. non-admitted business, licensing requirements, regulatory issues) and deal with international authorities in that respect.
Contractual & Operational Support
• Support the various departments from a legal and compliance perspective.
• Support the Sales, Operations and Partnership Departments by preparing and negotiating contractual set-ups such as cooperation agreements, reinsurance agreements, service agreements, client claims review etc.
• Support the product development process by reviewing insurance contracts, general terms and conditions, and other related documents.
Profile
University degree in law (equivalent to Master 2, LLM)
7 to 10 years’ experience as a lawyer or compliance officer and proven experience at heading a legal and compliance team in an international environment
A deep knowledge of the insurance sector is considered a must
Excellent knowledge of Luxembourg legal and regulatory environment
Sound knowledge of international legal systems and contract management
Experience of working in a matrix structure as part of an international group
Excellent analytical, drafting and negotiation skills
Strong team playing skills and the ability to present results in a comprehensible way
Indisputable level of integrity and trustworthiness
Highly motivated, dynamic and resilient and enjoy working in a multicultural environment
Flawless spoken and written English are required for this position
German and French are considered strong assets.
