How will you contribute?
We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Data Validation and Reporting Intern to join our team.
The intern will contribute to the development of Python-based data quality control and reporting pipelines for environmental time-series data, supporting the operational monitoring systems of LIST.
You will join the Luxembourg Eco-hydrology Observatory (LEO)- https://researchportal.list.lu/organisation/detail/leo under the Environmental Modelling and Sensing Unit (ENVISION) at LIST, a research and infrastructure platform dedicated to long-term environmental monitoring, sensing technologies, and data-driven assessment of climate, hydrology, soil and ecosystems across Luxembourg.
LEO integrates field sensors, databases, and digital tools to provide quality-controlled, traceable, and policy-relevant environmental information for research, national reporting, and European environmental obligations.
You will mainly focus on developing Python-based tools for data validation, analysis, and reporting within LEO’s environmental data pipelines. In particular, you will contribute to:
Understanding the structure and metadata of environmental time-series data (weather, hydrology, soil, water quality)
Developing and extending Python scripts for automated quality control (QA/QC) of environmental data
Supporting the automation of the data validation and processing chain
Developing Python-based reporting templates (tables, plots, summaries) that transform validated data into standardised weather and hydrological reports
Testing, refining, and improving the scripts together with the data management and sensor teams
Documenting the code and workflows and producing a user and developer guide

Education and skills
You are a Master student in computer science, data science, environmental informatics, hydrology, environmental science, or a related field.
You must have:
Solid knowledge of the programming language Python
Good experience of the version-control system GitAt least an upper-intermediate level of English (spoken and written)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong organisational and time management skills
In addition, it is beneficial if you have:
Public repository of at least one Python project
Experience with using Git in a team
Practice with validating, analysising and visualising climate or environmental time-series data
Interest in environmental monitoring, hydrology, or climate systems
Language skills
Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other relevant languages are an asset.
