Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

How will you contribute?
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Distributed and Intelligent Connectivity (DISCO) research group and contribute to applied research at the interface between 5G/6G networking, AI and digital twins, with a particular emphasis on energy efficiency. The work targets more energy-efficient mobile communication networks - particularly within the Radio Access Network (RAN) - while preserving service quality. The role also supports the development of AI-enabled network orchestration, as well as digital-twin-assisted planning for future IoT and 6G systems.
You will be mainly in charge of:
• Contributing to the design of strategies to reduce mobile network energy consumption, with a strong focus on the RAN and clear service-quality constraints
• Leveraging Network Digital Twinning and what-if analysis frameworks to test and compare strategies safely, calibrate models with real data, and support scenario-based decision-making.
• Building data-driven models (e.g., forecasting, clustering/segmentation, learning-based control) using real operator-grade datasets (traffic indicators, network KPI's, configuration logs and energy measurements when available).
• Investigating and combining multiple energy-saving levers (e.g., dynamic sleep strategies, band/technology selection, configuration tuning), and quantifying trade-offs between energy savings and service impact.
• Defining and applying a robust evaluation methodology (reproducibility, sensitivity analysis, and clear reporting of gains and limitations).
• Supporting validation with real network stakeholders and existing operational interfaces, and producing actionable technical recommendations and documentation.
• Publishing results in high‑impact journals and conferences and contributing to collaborative research activities within the team.
• Supporting or leading the preparation and development of new project proposals.
• Supporting knowledge transfer and demonstration of developed solutions in real or simulated industrial scenarios.
Is Your profile described below? Are you our future colleague? Apply now!
Education
• PhD in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a closely related field.
• Solid knowledge of mobile networks and 5G systems, with practical understanding of RAN optimization (KPI's, traffic/load dynamics, configuration parameters, coverage/capacity trade-offs). Interest in 6G is welcome.
• Interest or experience in energy efficiency of mobile networks, including energy/performance trade-offs and typical RAN levers; experience with energy metering data is a plus.
• Strong background in AI / Machine Learning for decision-making (e.g., forecasting, optimization with learning, reinforcement learning, robust or explainable models).
• Knowledge of Network Digital Twin concepts.
• Experience working with large, real-world datasets and building reproducible pipelines (data quality, missing data, bias, anonymization considerations).
Language skills
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or German is an advantage.
