Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.
You will join the Intelligent and Clean Energy Systems (ICES) research unit at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and will actively contribute to the WeForming and EnerTEF project, funded by the Horizon Europe, in collaboration with research institutes and Industrial partners around Europe.
WeForming and EnerTEF focus on the use of Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs) in smart grids. In the case of WeForming, this includes the integration of energy storage systems together with smart electric vehicle chargers, while EnerTEF focuses on establishing Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEFs) for the energy sector. Specifically, this project leverages industrial communication networks, distributed controllers, AI models, and state-of-the-art IBR-based infrastructure to optimize EV charging and energy systems. By integrating distributed energy resources, demand response, and storage, this project aims to enhance grid flexibility and increase the use of renewable energy.

How will you contribute?
Automating the operation and control of real demonstrators based on IBRs, including BESS, EV chargers, and PV generation, using distributed controllers (e.g. Beckhoff/TwinCAT, NI/CompactRIO, SIMATIC/PAC) and industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, IEC 61850, EtherCAT, OPC UA, CAN/CANopen).
Deploying cloud-to-edge architectures for real-time operation of IBR-dominated grids, integrating edge controllers with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS or GCP) using wide-area and publish–subscribe mechanisms (e.g. MQTT, AMQP, REST APIs, OPC UA).
Implementing distributed control strategies, including advanced services from grid-forming IBRs.
Working with RT-HIL environments (e.g. OPAL-RT, Typhoon, dSPACE) to validate cloud-controlled systems interacting with real hardware.
Participating in experimental activities in laboratory and field demonstrators with real-time data exchange and actuation.
Disseminating results through technical publications and contributions to national and European RDI projects.
