Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.
Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu/
How will you contribute?
As part of LIST’s SUSTAIN unit (Environmental Sustainability Assessment and Circularity), the Environmental Policies (EPS) group provides science-based input to the definition and implementation of environmental policies at national and EU level, in particular policies around chemical safety, circular (bio-)economy (e.g. in construction and textile), soil pollution, climate, and water efficiency, and feeds, at the interface of science, technologies and policies, the regulatory perspective into RDI projects around these topics.
The EPS group is strongly involved in the implementation of the EU chemicals legislation, being national helpdesk for REACH, CLP and POPs, holding a seat in the Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and in OECD Working Parties, and contributing to policy implementation projects, e.g. INTERREG ECHT (Enable digital product passports with Chemicals Traceability for a circular economy).
Moreover, the competences built up in the regulatory activities of the group are fed into national and EU RDI projects (e.g. TRUSTex) and contribute to offer of LIST’s SUSTAIN unit on sustainability assessment and Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approaches.
As seasoned and knowledgeable R&T Scientist, you will further strengthen these activities around chemical risk assessment and management via:
Becoming an active member of the Committee for Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC) at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and contribute with your expertise to the technical and scientific assessment (alternatives, substitution plans, etc.) and the preparation of ECHA’s opinions related to the socio-economic impact of possible legislative actions on chemicals in the REACH processes, especially restrictions and authorisations. This counts for around 50% of the position.
Contributing to the work of the national REACH&CLP Helpdesk and make the link to other chemical-related activities of the group (e.g. ECHA Risk Assessment Committee).
Contributing (e.g. via task and WP lead) to the European research projects of the group around chemical safety.
Contributing to the definition, submission and implementation (also as PI) of European and national research proposals as well as collaborative projects with public and private partners, by that further developing the group/unit assets.
