The European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC) is a joint initiative of the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). ESRIC’s mission is to be an internationally recognized centre of expertise for scientific, technical, business and economic aspects related to the use of space resources for human and robotic exploration, as well as for a future in-space economy.

ESRIC is conducting activities in three main areas: Research and testing facilities, Business support and incubation, and Community management.

 

The primary objective of ESRIC is to research, develop and improve the understanding and performance of processes enabling the utilization of space resources with an initial focus on the Moon.

How will you contribute?


·        Contribute to ESRIC’s research on the development of technology for lunar and Martian regolith handling and beneficiation.

·        Develop and apply modelling and simulation approaches to particle separation systems.

·        Optimize the design of particle-handling systems for the space environment, including the development of robust design criteria

·        Couple physics-based models and numerical simulations with optimization algorithms and software tools.

·        Carry out experimental validation of simulation results

Education

 

·        PhD in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or another STEM discipline.

·        Demonstrated experience with mathematical and numerical optimization methods, including, but not restricted to, geometry or shape optimization, parameter optimization, or multi-objective optimization.

·        Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, C/C++, R or similar) and experience using scientific computing and optimization libraries or frameworks.

·        Experience working with simulation-based workflows and coupling models to optimization routines.

·        Prior exposure to granular materials, multiphysics simulations, or mechanical systems.

·        Experimental experience with mechanical and or electronic systems is an advantage.

·        Knowledge of space resources/ISRU and/or space systems is an advantage

·        Ability to work independently on complex problems while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.

·        Good communication skills, including the ability to document methods and present results clearly.

 

 

Language skills


·        Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other Luxembourg national languages are an asset.
