Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a leading Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) that drives innovation for the economy and society in Luxembourg and beyond. With cutting-edge expertise in Natural, Built, Industrial environments, Space, AI, Security and defence technologies. LIST bridges scientific excellence and applied research to design solutions that address real-world challenges and create positive impact.
In 2024, LIST and GOODYEAR signed the second phase of their partnership, 2024-2029, building on the outcomes of their previous collaboration and entering new technological areas as well. GOODYEAR-LIST partnership 2.0 embraces Luxembourg's National priorities, such as Sustainability, Digital transformation and Circular economy, through the execution of five Strategic Research Programs: Data Science for Tires, Tire as a Sensor, End-of-Life Tire Valorization, Sustainable Materials for Non-Pneumatic Tires, Sustainable Materials for Next Generation of Pneumatic Tires, Structure-Process-Properties Relationships.

How will you contribute?
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is seeking to recruit a two-year postdoctoral position to work on the fabrication on Li-ion microbatteries. The project is part of a large R&D framework between Goodyear company and LIST including one topic dealing with the development of “smart tires”. In this general context, the main objective of the project in which the postdoctoral candidate will be integrated is to explore how the configuration of an area of microbatteries can be optimally designed to obtain the best coupling with an energy harvester empowering device.
As such, the selected candidate will have (i), to fabricate and characterize solid state microbatterie(s) (ii), explore how to promote their optimal charging when they are powered by an energy harvester, (iii) work on the integration of such devices in a model tire.
More precisely, together with the teams of LIST scientists in the field of materials dry synthesis, microfabrication or microelectronics, the candidate will be involved in the experimental/operational fabrication of the materials needed for the realization of microbatteries, the control of their internal interfaces, their integration for the realization of the microdevices, as well as their structural/chemical characterizations and electrochemical performances determination (ionic conductivity measurement, areal capacity determinations in liquid or solid electrolyte, rate capacity, etc.). He will additionally have to work on the final protection of the fabricated Li-ion microbatteries. The candidate will be located at LIST (Belvaux) and will have regular contacts with the company.
