How will you contribute?

 

The new Dusty Thermal Vacuum Chamber (DTVC) is integral to the development of large-scale research and testing infrastructure at ESRIC, through our strategic partnership with ESA. 

 

The DTVC Technician will support the setup, operation, and maintenance of thermal vacuum test equipment for space system testing in the presence of lunar regolith simulant.  This hands-on role ensures tests are executed safely, accurately, and according to defined procedures. They will work with the DTVC engineer to maintain the DTVC system performance, efficiency and reliability.

 

Key Tasks:

  • Assist DTVC engineer with test preparation and execution for DTVC testing:

    • Support with pre-processing of hardware

    • Set up hardware inside thermal vacuum chambers

    • Install sensors (thermocouples, pressure gauges, etc.)

    • Support test procedures, standards and setup of DTVC tests in accordance with user requirements and relevant ESA space related test standards

    • Operate DTVC systems including vacuum pumps and thermal control units

    • Monitor test conditions and record data during test runs

  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment including calibration and leak tests

  • Support towards post-processing and testing of hardware after DTVC tests

  • Support the evaluation of DTVC test results for reporting to stakeholders and customers 

  • Respect of LIST Health Safety and Environment (HSE) policies ensuring protocols are enforced for all DTVC activities especially handling of cryogenic fluids and high-vacuum systems

  • Provide support to users of the DTVC and facility

  • Support the DTVC engineer to optimise equipment performance, maintenance, and up-time through troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions

  • Shift work and availability (on-call) outside of normal working hours to ensure support during 24/7 critical testing phases of the DTVC

Education

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical or vocational qualification in engineering technology or related field

  • 6 years experience with laboratory or industrial testing equipment

  • Basic understanding of vacuum systems and thermal processes

  • Ability to read technical drawings and procedures

  • Strong attention to detail and hands-on skills

  • Safety clearances: electrical qualification BT - H/V (Q), machinery driving

 

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience working in aerospace or environmental test labs

  • Familiarity with control and automation, data acquisition systems

  • Experience in thermal, vacuum, mechanical, electrical equipment routine maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Experience with components and environmental testing for the space industry

  • Experience supporting bench-top testing of electrical/mechanical assemblies

  • Experience in operating mobile cranes, forklifts, and handling equipment (training shall be provided if required)
