How will you contribute?
The LEO platform (https://researchportal.list.lu/organisation/detail/sd-envision-leo) is looking for a student to carry out a 6-month internship starting in the last quarter of 2026.
The student should support the development of innovative technologies for biodiversity monitoring. The internship combines hands-on prototyping, software development, and applied research within a collaborative mechatronics and environmental monitoring team.
Tasks may include:
· Assembly and testing of monitoring prototypes and sensing devices
· Performing hands-on mechanical and technical work
· Supporting the development of the NewtCam system
· Supporting laboratory experiments and field deployments
· Contributing to software development and device integration
· Evaluating and improving hardware/software workflows and pipelines
· Exploring AI applications related to biodiversity monitoring and imaging technologies.
The internship offers the possibility to participate in field work and gain practical experience with real-world biodiversity monitoring campaigns.

Education
Level of education required and covered topics: Master or Bachelor student with skills related to prototyping, biodiversity and/or ecology
Experience and skills
· Prototype design, assembly, and testing
· Interest for tech-based devices and solutions to automate biodiversity data collection
· Curiosity about developing and integrating machine learning algorithms for automated identification in embedded prototyping environments
· Having programming experience in at least one language (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C).
Language skills
• Fluency in English. Other relevant languages are an asset.
