For a research and technology organisation such as LIST – Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, the profile should go beyond a traditional sales-oriented Business Developer. The position should be positioned as a Senior Business Development Manager specialised in sustainable, smart and multifunctional materials, advanced coatings and sustainable manufacturing technologies., combining scientific literacy, ecosystem building, technology valorisation, public-private partnerships, and international business development. LIST's activities in advanced coatings and surface engineering technologies, including corrosion-resistant solutions, high-performance materials, technology transfer, and industrial innovation require someone capable of engaging both researchers and industrial decision-makers.
Mission summary
We’re looking for a senior professional combining scientific expertise in advanced and functional coatings and surface engineering technologies, with 10+ years of international business development experience, strong knowledge of research valorisation and technology transfer, and a well-established European and global network across industry, academia and innovation ecosystems, capable of transforming advanced research into impactful industrial collaborations and sustainable economic value.
The selected candidate will support the development of industrial and academic partnerships supporting the valorisation and market deployment of advanced materials technologies developed at LIST. Acting as the interface between research teams, industrial stakeholders, public funding bodies, and innovation ecosystems, the successful candidate will coordinate the identification of potential collaboration opportunities, support in establishing partnerships, and contribute to revenue generation through collaborative R&D projects, technology licensing, innovation programmes, and strategic alliances.
Part of the role will focus on supporting and piloting business development activities linked to an Innovation Accelerator dedicated to coatings technologies, fostering collaboration between research teams, industrial partners, startups, investors, public authorities and European innovation ecosystems.
Main responsibilities
• Works with autonomy under limited oversight on tasks and missions related to business development and the creation and management of partnership for RDI projects.
• Conducts sound market prospections to identify business opportunities and potential partners, evaluates feasibility and benefits of collaborations. Supports and advice RDI teams to select suitable partners according to projects’ goals.
• Coordinates discussions and negotiations to engage partnership collaborations. Develops and negotiates partnership agreements, including terms of collaboration, financial arrangements, and mutual expectations. Manages the processes to formalise them (e.g., contact legal and administrative teams, follows up the approval and signature of MOUs or collaboration contracts, etc.).
• Coordinates with other internal operational and research teams to ensure successful integration and execution of partnership initiatives. Works to maintain positive relationships between research groups and partners.
• Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation of all partnership activities, agreements, and communications for legal compliance and reference.
• Conducts specialised search and collection of market information to identify partnership opportunities and support fund sourcing efforts of RDI departments. Works with RDI teams to translate market information into potential RDI initiatives and/or matches RDI assets and ongoing efforts to market needs.
• Communicates and negotiates with int/ext. partners and stakeholders under limited oversight.
• Contributes to disseminate and make visible the RDI activity by organising or participating in national/international events, industrial fairs, symposiums, etc. Presents and promotions the RDI activity and assets in front of partners and stakeholders.

Education
Master's degree in one of the following disciplines: Materials Science and/or Engineering;
Experience and skills
Required
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in Business Development, Strategic Partnerships, Innovation Management, Technology Transfer, Industrial R&D Collaboration, Research Valorisation,
• Demonstrated experience managing international industrial partnerships and collaborative innovation projects.
• Proven track record in securing and managing multi-partner projects involving industry, academia, and public stakeholders.
Highly Desirable
• Experience in sectors such as sustainable, circular, smart and multifunctional materials, advanced coatings and surface engineering technologies for energy systems and industrial applications including aerospace, mobility and energy sectors would be must
Language Skills
Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other relevant languages such as French are an asset.
Technical Competencies
We are looking for a highly connected business developer with a strong technical background in sustainable and smart materials, advanced coatings, corrosion protection, and sustainable manufacturing for energy, aerospace, mobility, and industrial applications., capable of engaging credibly with scientists, engineers, CTOs and industrial leaders. The successful candidate will drive strategic partnerships with industry, academia and public institutions, identify and secure collaborative R&D and innovation opportunities (Horizon Europe, EIC, Eurostars, ESA, etc.), support technology transfer and commercialisation, and contribute to the growth of LIST through high-value collaborations. A proven track record in developing international partnerships, securing major collaborative projects, building innovation ecosystems and generating business opportunities is essential, together with an established international network across the materials and manufacturing sectors (OEMs, suppliers, research organisations and innovation stakeholders). The role requires outstanding strategic thinking, business acumen, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, combined with a results-driven, entrepreneurial and collaborative mindset.

This position offers a gross monthly salary between € 6724 and € 8781, paid over 13 months (€87412–€114153 annually) based on full-time employment. The final salary offer within this range will be determined based on the candidate's overall profile, qualifications and professional experience.
